HELPING YOU LIVE LIFE MORE BEAUTIFULLYHeadingIf you’re interested in reducing the fat under your chin without liposuction, then you should consider KYBELLA™ in Chicago. KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”. KYBELLA™ is made up of a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the break down and absorption of fat.

KYBELLA

Looking to improve the appearance of the dreaded “double chin”? Now there is a treatment that is specifically designed to contour and improve the appearance of submental fullness. This is the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that is derived from deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that actually helps breakdown and absorb dietary fat. It essentially destroys the fat cells beneath the chin upon injection.

Who is it good for?

You are an ideal candidate for KYBELLA injections if you have fat deposits under your chin. You may undergo KYBELLA treatment if you do not want to undergo more-invasive procedures like liposuction.

It is important to note that you should have good skin elasticity in order to avoid sagging skin after treatment. You are not a good candidate for this treatment option if you are pregnant or nursing.

Patients asking about their submental fullness may, at times, refer to it as their “double chin.”
It is a common, yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition that can:

  • Detract from an otherwise balanced and harmonious facial appearance
  • Lead to an older and heavier look
  • Impact a broad range of adults, including both women and men
  • Be caused by aging, genetics and/or weight gain

According to a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 68% of consumers are bothered by submental fullness—nearly as many as those bothered by lines and wrinkles around the eyes (71%)!

Your consultation

Treatment with KYBELLA is customized by the physician to the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile. During your KYBELLA™ consultation with Dr. Erickson, your cosmetic goals will be reviewed.

Dr. Erickson will perform a physical examination of your jaw and chin. She will assess your skin health and go over your medical history to confirm your eligibility for the treatment. There should be no contraindication to the treatment such as active skin infections at the injection sites.

Next, Dr. Erickson will tell you about the details of the process, including pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

The treatment session

Once you have discussed your needs with Dr. Erickson, your treatment can take place in less than fifteen minutes. Your KYBELLA treatment begins with cleansing the target area. Then the injection sites will be marked. A topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure patient comfort during the injection process.

After the cream has taken effect, Dr. Erickson will administer the injections directly into the fat under the chin. The number of injections will depend on the amount of submental fat present. A cold compress or ice pack may be applied to reduce swelling.

KYBELLA results

In clinical studies, many patients experienced visible results in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. It may take up to 6 treatments to achieve your goals for improvement. Once the aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA, retreatment is not expected.

Cost of KYBELLA

The cost of KYBELLA™ treatments varies from patient to patient to cater to specific physiological features and desired outcomes. The overall price may be impacted by factors like the number of injections required.

KYBELLA aftercare

There is no downtime or lengthy recovery period associated with KYBELLA treatments. You may resume your normal routine afterwards. You may experience swelling, bruising, and numbness for several days. These should resolve after a few weeks.

Avoid hot showers, jacuzzis, and saunas for the first 24 hours after treatment. You may go back to the gym and participate in other physically strenuous activities a day or two after your injections.

Are there risks?

Though less common, there is a chance of minor bruising associated with any injectable. To lessen your chances of bruising, we recommend discontinuing use of products like Aspirin, Blood-Thinners, Fish-Oils, Alcohol, Aleve, and any aspirin-based products like Alka Seltzer for 2 weeks prior to your procedure. We do not treat patients who are pregnant or nursing. Here is more specific information on risks, click to view. Please call our office for a consultation to discuss if you are a good candidate for this treatment, we are always happy to consult you and answer any questions you may have.

We all know it—and fear it—the presence of fat on the upper neck or under the chin, commonly known as (the dreaded) double-chin. Pockets of fat can be genetic, and can form despite weight or healthy eating. This contributes to an older and heavier overall look, and nobody wants that!

Recently FDA-approved KYBELLA is a new way to treat it. Made up of a naturally-occurring molecule, the treatment consists of a series of small injections to destroy the fat cells and tighten the neck.
