Chemical Exfoliation (also known as a chemical peel) is a process used to improve skin tone and texture, diminish fine lines, reduce brown spots and treat acne.  Chemical peels are known for re-texturing and brightening the appearance of skin for a refreshed look.  Treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest, or other areas of the body to improve the quality of the skin.  Superficial (or surface) peels are not effective in correcting lax skin, sagging skin, severe wrinkles or deep scars, but may help improve the outcome of other treatments used to address these concerns.

Who is it good for?

Our staff is highly trained and certified in using many different chemical peels to address pigmentation concerns, dry skin, acne, and aging concerns. Dr. Erickson and her aesthetic staff will design a peel regimen to fit the needs of your skin.

Generally, you will notice gradual improvement. While a single peel will firm and freshen the skin, leaving a healthy glow, most clients should plan on a series of 5 to 6 peels to achieve their longer-term goals. Acne-prone skin may require additional or ongoing treatments. Depending on your customized treatment plan, chemical exfoliation can be performed at 2- 4 week intervals, and may gradually increase in intensity of the peel as the skin becomes healthier and resistant to this ‘exercise’. Many times, a layered effect of one or more peels can achieve faster results. Results are generally long lasting, although maintenance will help to maintain the beneficial effects.

What should I expect?

Superficial peels may involve mild pinkness the day of the procedure followed by sloughing/flaking or visible dryness for 3 -5 days. More aggressive peels will usually result in longer periods of exfoliation or flaking. Our highly experienced staff will help you plan the timing of your chemical peels to fit into your busy lifestyle.
